Fisker Automotive hopes to sell 7,000 Karma hybrid sports cars in 2011

Plans of the Karma hybrid sports car from Fisker Automotive was discussed by the COO Bernhard Koehler at the Geneva auto show during an interview by Automotive News Europe. The company hopes to sell 7000 units in 2011 and 15,000 units in 2012, as per its Chief Operations Officer. The car comes with a price tag of $87,900. The car would be built in Finland under a contract with Valmet Automotive and starts on 21st March. The company has already received 3,000 orders so far as per Koehler.

Delivery in the US would start by July as per Koehler with some exclusive orders being materialized even in June. The first version of the Karma would be a four door one and test drives are expected to start in the month of May at both US and Europe.

The Frankfurt Auto shows scheduled in September this year would have the second variant of the Karma with the launch scheduled in 2012. A third version of the Karma would also be available in 2013. For the initial stages, Valmet would be the production site of all the Karma variants. Fisker also have a second car in its plan which would be a family sedan with the project named Project Nina and for this the production site would be in Newport, Delaware, in the U.S. The project is expected to commence late 2012. Price of the cars would be $40,000 after a $7,500 federal tax credit
