Ford is preparing to offer carbon-fiber wheels as a choice on the Ford GT when it goes on sale later this year to the 500 authorized purchasers of the mid-engine supercar.
The carbon-fiber wheel, made together with provider partner Carbon Revolution Pty. Ltd., is 2 pounds lighter compared to the already light-weight alloy wheels spec ‘d OE on the $400,000-plus GT, Ford stated.
This quantity of weight decrease translates into a 25-percent drop in inertia, Ford stated, which results in enhanced acceleration, braking and vibrant performance, and which likewise can benefit suspension action and trip quality.
The wheels, measured at 8.5 x 20 in. (front) and 11.5 x 20 in. (back) are constructed with the current generation of fiber and resin innovation, which allows higher design flexibility, as per Ford said, leading to streaming, more elaborate spokes.
Carbon-fiber wheels are denser than conventional alloys, which further dampens road sound and, to a lower degree, vibration.
Ford did not reveal how much more the carbon-fiber wheels would cost.
Its the 2nd model for which Ford is providing the carbon-fiber wheel choice. In 2015 it developed the wheels conventional equipment on the Shelby Mustang GT350R.
Although not like the Shelby GT350R’s black-painted carbon fiber wheels, Ford GT wheels will be offered in two surfaces– either a matte or a shiny clearcoat, allowing the sensational nature of the carbon fiber weave to present to through. The finishes match the two disclosed carbon finishes offered on the sills, fascia and extractor of the brand new supercar.
