Ford’s Next-Gen Escape: Spy Shots

by Sebastian Bivin

One of the most interesting concept cars shown at 2011 Detroit Motor Show was the Ford Vertrek. Taking inspiration from the Focus hatchback, it looks like a sleeker and more refined Escape, which is now in dire need of a replacement.

That very same vehicle was spotted in SoCal and spy photographers not only did snap the exterior from a multitude of angles, but they also managed to get some interior spy shots as well.

From this shots we can see the interior looks heavily inspired from the Fiesta and Focus, it’s just been scaled up quite a bit.

Of course is not the time yet to speak about performances and all kind of features, but we can suppose that this model will be very similar with the Ford Vertrek, the car shown this year at Detroit Motor Show.

The Vertrek is based on the same architecture as the 2012 Ford Focus and is set to replace the Kuga crossover in Europe.

Beside the shape that is visible even with that camouflage, there’s more to this story than a new shape, with the Vertrek also sporting one of Ford’s new EcoBoost engines. Under the concept shown in Detroit hood is a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder. This same engine has also just been revealed in the 2011 Ford C-Max, making 168-hp and 173 ft-lbs of torque. If Ford follows the same strategy as with the C-Max, look for a production model to get an equally-powerful 168-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder standard, with the EcoBoost version selling for a premium, but all this are just some assumptions for now.

If we’ll find out something new, you’ll be the first you’ll find it out. Until then, in the gallery below you can see the most recent spy pics with Ford’s Next-Gen Escape.
