Two of the vehicle crashes took place on Highway 101 in the western Goleta Valley on Wednesday morning.

The first crash was reported around 2:10 a.m., which took place on northbound Highway 101, near Winchester Canyon Road. A sedan driver in the right-hand lane crashed with another vehicle in that lane.

The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 2:18 a.m., another crash was reported near Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.

A Volkswagen driver was moving northbound and then crossed over the dirt center divider into the southbound lanes of Highway 101.

The driver crashed with another vehicle, a Ford Expedition.

Both vehicles were engulfed after the crash.

The wrong-way crash was reported just eight minutes after and 3 miles away from the first crash.

Both crashes resulted in four deaths and road closures in both directions.

Highway 101 was closed for hours after the crashes, and one northbound lane resumed around 7:45 a.m.

Southbound lanes were resumed as of 11 a.m.

California Highway Patrol investigated the crashes.
