The iconic Chevrolet Corvette is now in its seventh-generation. The C7 debuted as a coupe and cabriolet last year packing a LT1 6.2-liter V8 making 455 hp or 460 hp with the optional performance exhaust.
More powerful ZR1 will follow soon with 600+ horsepower, but the biggest surprise is that GM has already started work on the next-generation model, the C8.
The new Corvette is the best ever, but the competition is strong in this segment and lifeline of a model is clearly much shorter than years ago to stay on top of the game.
Mark Reuss, General Motor’s Executive Vice President of Global Product Development has confirmed to Detroit Free Press the next-generation Corvette is already in development and it is possible the new C8 could see a hybrid or an electric variant.
Hybrid is very likely as Porsche is also moving towards “hybridizing” their whole model range, including the 911.
Even though the work has started on C8 it will be years before we can see the actual car. Most likely 2018 or 2019.
