For the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month, GM China is preparing an all-electric vehicle of its own, labeled as Springo, which has peculiar cut of the chevy Sail hatchback with Volt-like face added on. We can also see gold body stripes and low-rolling resistance tires. The lack of Chevrolet badging is notable and it could imply the model will spearhead a new electric sub-brand, but nothing is official as of yet.
The sources say that Chevy Spark EV and the Springo EV would not be sharing same engineering, as one might assume, due to their similar launches. Because the Spark rides upon Gamma II, while the Sail still rides upon the platform from the Opel Corsa B. Though the Springo is Sail based, it might not be sold as a Chevy as because of the S badge seen, this has lead to speculation that Springo might be SAIC-GM’s Chinese government mandated sub-brand. Last year, GM launched Baojun, which is the sub-brand for SAIC-GM-Wuling, and if Springo were its own brand, it would become GM’s 11th brand, for reference, VW Group can lay claim to 14.
Lets just wait for the time being, as more details will emerge once the launch is near, so stay tuned, and yes don’t forget to take a look at the teaser images.
