HK$15 Million Spilled on the Road!

Basically, according to everyone in this world, Christmas is the time for miracles to happen. Although some grown up people out there may not actually believe this, this one incident in particular is a legitimate proof that Christmas is indeed the time for miracles to happen. Believe it or not, no less than HK$15 million has recently been spilled on a highway in Hong Kong. Taking into account that HK$1 is equivalent to approximately USD0.13, this means there was about USD1.93 million spilled on the road.

Out of all the money spilled, one third of it, totaling about HK$4.8 million, has been recovered so far. As for the rest of it, well, the money is now in the hands of some 20 to 30 Hong Kong citizens that happened to be around the highway when the money got spilled some time ago. As reported by the South China Morning Post, the money was spilled by a van transporting it.

The total sum of cash that the van was trying to transport totaled HK$525 million. The cash was divided into separate boxes, each of which contained HK$17.5 million. Unfortunately, one of the doors on the van malfunctioned and got opened by itself. As a result, one of those cash boxes got thrown onto the Hong Kong highway, which was pretty crowded at the time of the incident.

The South China Morning Post reported that there were three men onboard the money van at the moment. However, they did not stop when the incident took place. They simply decided to report the incident when they got to their destination.

Fortunately enough for the rightful owner of the cash, a kind-hearted Hong Kong citizen decided to return HK$2 million whereas two other people also decided to hand in a HK$1 million sum. The local police have not arrested anyone yet following this incident, but they will carry out necessary investigations and attempt to recover as much of the cash as they possibly can.

Well, it seems that this year’s Christmas has some… perhaps rather ‘unfortunate’ incident.
