Continuing its strong sales momentum in financial year of 2017-18, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India closed May 2017 with 500,000 units sold for second month in a row.
The total Honda 2-Wheelers India sold an overall of 537,035 units in May 2017 compared with 436,328 units in May 2016. Honda’s overall sales increased by 23% which is double the market growth of 11% in the month.
Honda’s domestic two-wheeler sales (scooter + motorcycle) increased 23% from 415,860 units in May 2016 to 510,381 units in May 2017. Honda’s automatic scooter sales closed at 334,165 units in May 2017 with a strong 24% over 268,429 units in May last year.
Honda likewise consolidated as No. 2 brand in domestic motorbike segment. Honda’s bikes sales recorded a robust 20% development (147,431 units in May 2016 to 176,216 units in May 2017). Honda 2-Wheelers India’s exports leap by 30% to 26,654 units from 20,468 units.
“Honda continues to exceed the two-wheeler industry growth growing nearly 3 times that of the market in April-May 2017. Increased acceptance of Honda’s newly released motorbikes has led Honda preserving its No. 2 position in the bike sector for 2nd month in a row. Overall, the two-wheeler market has once again got better to double digit growth after six months indicating early indications of recovery. However, with upcoming GST execution, market sentiment is cautiously positive,” stated Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India.
