It is true that there are plenty of automakers unveiling their latest vehicle creations at the 2015 New York Auto Show event. However, not many of them are really giving surprises to the public since the vehicles they unveil have already been leaked or teased ahead of the aforementioned automotive exhibition event. However, the same can’t be said of the Japanese automaker, Honda. The Japanese marquee has actually surprised visitors to this year’s New York Auto Show event by officially unveiling its latest, 10th generation Civic concept car.
The car features an ultra-sporty design which seems to give way to a new design language from Honda. It seems that this new design will be inherited by the 2016 model year Honda Civic. Speaking of which, it is believed that the model will come in several variants, which are, hatchback, Si, Coupe, Sedan and, most excitingly, the Type-R variant.
It can be seen that the new Honda Civic concept sports a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. In addition to that, it is also coming with a pretty short overhang on the front, an elongated engine hood, a wide body kit, a short rear deck and also prominent fender arches. The car also looks attractive, thanks to the LED headlamps that flank the ‘Flying H’ front grille. Below the front grille, we can see massive air intakes as well.
Paying attention to the rear end of the car, we shall find interconnected LED taillights, a third brake lamp integrated into the fixed rear wing spoiler and also a hexagonal exhaust pipe mounted on the center section of the rear fascia.
As far as the 2016 Honda Civic is concerned, the car will be coming with a direct injection VTEC turbo engine with a total capacity of 1.5 liters. This engine will either be accompanied by a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a 6-speed short shifting transmission system. A number of safety and assisting features will reportedly be available as well.
Honda will be putting the 2016 Honda Civic on sales starting from this fall itself, at least in the US.
