Reports from the Motor Trend magazine have confirmed the debut of a new car from Hyundai as scheduled for next January during the 2011 Detroit Show. The car is to be a coupe version with a sporty front drive similar to its Veloster concept.
First displayed by Hyundai at the 2007 Seoul Motor Show as the HND-3 Veloster, the production and thereafter sales for this car would commence in US around fall of 2011. Prior to its debut in October at the Paris Motor Show the car is expected to be available at South Korea, it being the home market for Hyundai. It is also expected to participate in races soon after its debut.
Since its transformation from a concept to reality there has been many a tests that the car has undergone as well as many names that has been attached and then removed. A permanent name yet eludes the car, but it is confirmed that it would not be close to the name Veloster and possibility that it be close to the name of Tiburon.
Drawing from the features and performance of the concept that it is based upon it can be expected that the car would have a 2+2 front wheel drive only. The engine should be a 1.6 liter direct injection, four cylinders one with delivery of 140 hp. Transmission is expected to be manual. There is of course the possibility of Hyundai replacing the engine with its 2.4 liter four cylinder one or the newer 2.0 liter turbo. Hyundai, currently is working on the 1.6 liter engine to get 40 mpg more out of it and this would obviate the need for a hybrid fitment on their to be named car.
