Just a few days after the the Japanese luxury car manufacturer published a special clip in which the Formula 1 champion, Sebastian Vettel, talks to Infiniti’s chief designer about an upcoming special edition of the FX, Infiniti released the first image of its concept car to star at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13. It will be unveiled by the Infiniti FX driver who helped design it: reigning Formula One World Champion, Sebastian Vettel.
The F1 driver himself participated to the designing process of the new concept car which is likely to enter production in a limited series early next year. At the exterior, this concept sports LED daytime running lights, new carbon fiber front and rear bumper, new apron, roof spoiler and side skirts. In addition, in order to complte the exterior appearance, comes a new set of alloy wheels fitted with high performance tires.
As for the interior, unfortunately, we got no photos of it. Still, expect the new car to showcase special trim revisions, carbon fibre details inside, as well as a race-like steering wheel with more controls and buttons.
If you don’t know already, the 2011 infiniti FX50 rides on a wheelbase that has been elongated by 1.4 inches, and the top-of-the line FX50 is powered by an all-new 5.0 liter V8 mated to a new seven-speed automatic transmission – a first for Infiniti. The transmission can be shifted via steering column-mounted paddles, and downshift blip the throttle to match revs during spirited driving. The newly developed 5.0-liter V8 that trumps the 4.5-liter V8 it replaces by 70 horsepower and 34 lb-ft of torque, with its rating of 390 horsepower and 369 lb-ft.
“Since our first contact with Infiniti I liked their cars. A car can impress you in two ways: its looks and its handling. After I had the chance to test some cars in the range I became a big fan. They are comfortable as well as sporty when you ask for it. I am sure we as a team and myself can benefit a lot from the experience of Infiniti and I am very much looking forward to our partnership in the future,” said Vettel back in May.
Finally, Sebastian Vettel was earlier this year named ambassador of the Infiniti brand, company officials announcing at that time that Infiniti is also collaborating with the German on a performance flavor of the FX. More details will come next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, so stay tuned for news.
