Jaguar Land Rover, the UK’s biggest automaker, has announced it is starting construction work on a £200 million redevelopment of its design and engineering centre located at Gaydon in Warwickshire.
The expansion concerns the first significant construction project at one of the automaker’s non-manufacturing sites in more than decade. The development is aimed to become one of the foremost automotive product worldwide, engineering and design sites – suitable for a company with enthusiastic strategies for continued worldwide growth.
Chris Elliott, Property Programmes Director for the automaker, stated: “The new design and engineering centre is a testament both to Jaguar Land Rover’s British heritage of innovation and its effective vision for future vehicle technology. The new space will centralise our design, product engineering and purchasing features in an original and modern environment, in addition to creating additional capacity for the future.”
Jaguar Land Rover collaborated with top architectural practice Bennetts Associates to make the scheme and has brought Laing O’Rourke as its construction partner. Laing O’Rourke will develop the site to produce a unique landscaped campus made up of new offices and Jaguar and Land Rover design centres.
In last years JLR has invested a lot in its UK vehicle manufacturing facilities located at Castle Bromwich, Halewood and Solihull to support the launch of all-new vehicles including the Jaguar XE, XF and F-PACE, Range Rover Evoque Convertible and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Furthermore, it has made significant progress in constructing its worldwide manufacturing existence over the last year, with a new manufacturing facility under construction in Slovakia and the beginning of its plant in Brazil.
During the last five years Jaguar Land Rover has hired over 20,000 individuals, taking its workforce to over 40,000. The company has invested no less than £11 billion in creation of new product and capital expenditure.
