Jaguar XS to have coupe and estate versions

by David Bond

Jaguar’s upcoming baby sedan will supposedly get coupe and estate body styles to be better able to compete with its main rival, the BMW 3-Series.

Scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2015, the model will be followed shortly by the two additional versions and will ride on Jaguar’s brand new iq[Al] aluminum architecture. The sedan will be available with 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines which will enable the XS (naming not confirmed) to have CO2 emissions below 100 g/km.

There are chances that the Jaguar XS may come fitted with more powerful engines such as a 3.0-liter V6 diesel mill producing 240 HP (177 kW) and a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine generating 340 HP (250 kW).

Speaking in an interview, Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark said that the new model (with all three body styles) will have what it takes to comfortably double the sales for the British marque. Further talking about the aesthetics, Hallmark stated that they wanted to build the best looking car in the segment, so design appeal number one.

Well the plans seem to be pretty ambitious but if all goes well, BMW 3-Series may have a tough competition ahead.
