Jeep has announced that a high-performance SRT-8 version of its new Grand Cherokee is coming to the UK in right-hand drive, after it will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
This it will be the most powerful Grand Cherokee yet being powered by a new 6.4 liter Hemi V8 engine, delivering 464 BHP and 630 Nm of torque, 49 BHP and 61 Nm more than its 6.1 liter V8 predecessor. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 158 mph, which is really good for a SUV.
The high-performance SRT-8 version of the new Grand Cherokee is fitted with a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down half of the pistons under light engine loads, but even so the fuel consumption has been improved only by 12 percent, to under 20 mpg.
“The all-new Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the ultimate performance SUV, delivering a combination of Jeep capability and utility, world-class performance, luxury and refinement, and advanced innovative technology”, said the Chrysler Group president and CEO, Mike Manley.
The European Jeep Grand Cherokee will be sold in only a single trim level, priced around £50,000. Equipment will include sat-nav, a twin sunroof, adaptive cruise control and active dampers. Sports seats also feature, while on the outside, lowered suspension and LED daytime running lights mark out the SRT-8 from lesser models in the range.
