Lamborghini‘s CEO Stephan Winkelmann has recently clarified that “the expectation” is to launch the Urus in 2017.
Last year in May Lamborghini had confirmed a production version of the Urus concept for market release in 2017 and now the firm’s CEO Stephan Winkelmann has further confirmed the plans for an SUV from Sant’Agata to come out three years from now since he is of the view that the luxury SUV market is poised to continue to grow.
According to some of the reports, the spiritual successor of the LM002 will ride on the same MLB platform as the next-gen Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg as well as the Bentley SUV. However details about what will power the Urus are not available as of now but previous reports have indicated that a twin-turbo V8 along with a plug-in hybrid version could be fitted in the model. Winkelmann already said about a year ago the production version of the Urus will be offered with two powertrain choices but refused to provide further details about the same.
On a side note, Winkelmann told Automotive News Europe that deliveries of the Gallardo-replacing Huracan will commence in the second half of 2014.
