The year 2011 is a landmark year for Italy as this marks the completion of a glorious 150 years for the country since unification. And how come an event as important as this can go unnoticed for a company such as Lamborghini that takes so much pride in its Italian roots. The unification was an event that an Italian symbol of the stature of Lamborghini cannot simply miss out on. To mark the magnanimity of the event, the super car manufacturer will come up with a special version of the Gallardo by the name of ‘the Tricolore.’ The name in a way pays tribute to the flag if Italy, which decorates the car in the form of a three colored stripe that stretches across the hood, the driver’s seat and the roof in a way that hits the nostalgia of the LP550-2 Valentino Balboni edition.
In addition to the green, white and red stripe, the Gallardo Tricolore also boasts of carbon fiber mirror caps and a white paint. “To celebrate the 150 years of Italian unity we felt that it was appropriate to propose a tri color livery for our most successful model, the Lamborghini Gallardo,” said the company CEO, Stephan Winkelmann. “With the Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore we give a further impulse to the development of the ‘Made in Italy’ label in the world.”
The car will officially hit the roads on March 16 in Turin, at an exhibition that will be exclusively held in the honor of the state anniversary of Italy. And as a matter of fact at the moment, Lamborghini offered no technical details of the special edition model and has yet to make known of the number of cars it plans to build. Even after saying that, the estimate goes up to 150.
