Mazda Hazumi concept goes official in Geneva, previews next-gen Mazda2

Mazda has finally taken the wraps off the Hazumi concept at the Geneva Motor Show.

A new baby Mazda is ready to show its production face but until then the company has introduced the Hazumi concept which adopts a bold front fascia that will probably be toned down until production. It does appear to be one of the most attractive city cars thanks to a refined Kodo design language which makes the car look a bit imposing despite the compact dimensions.

Speaking of size, the five-door hatchback is 4,070mm long, 1,730mm wide and 1,450mm tall, with a 2,585mm wheelbase and 18-inch alloy wheels well wrapped in 215/45 R18 tires. It has enough space in the high-tech cabin to host four people which will be able to enjoy Mazda’s MZD Connect infotainment system that can work together with a Heads-up Cockpit.

Motivation will be provided by a newly developed Euro 6-compliant SKYACTIV-D 1.5 turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission enabling the Hazumi supermini to have CO2 emissions of less than 90 g/km. The concept has been envisioned with the full array of SKYACTIV technologies tailored specifically for a subcompact car.

The next generation of the Mazda2 will most likely be unveiled in October at the Paris Motor Show.
