Mercedes A-, B- & CLA-Class gain new engines

Mercedes has recently introduced a handful of new engines for its A-, B- and CLA-Class models.

Firstly, the A- and B-Class get an entry-level 160 CDI variant that has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 90 HP (66 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the hatchbacks to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 13.8 seconds (14.0 seconds for the B-Class) and hit a top speed of 180 kmph. In terms of efficiency, the A 160 CDI averages 3.8 L/100km (61.9 mpg US / 74.3 mpg UK) while the B 160 CDI returns 4.1 L/100km (57.3 mpg US / 68.9 mpg UK).

The new B 220 4MATIC comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 184 HP (135 kW). It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 7.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 225 kmph (140 mph). The is B 180 CDI which is more fuel efficient and adopts a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 109 HP (80 kW). It lowers the model’s fuel consumption from 4.4 L/100km (53.4 mpg US / 64.2 mpg UK) to 4.1 L/100km (57.3 mpg US / 68.9 mpg UK).

Last but not the least, there is also a 180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition which accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 11.6 seconds, comes with a top speed of 190 kmph and averages 3.8 L/100km (61.9 mpg US / 74.3 mpg UK).
