Mercedes-Benz C-Class details emerge, liftback planned – report

by SpeedLux

New details of the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class have surfaced on the net recently.

The C-Class (W205) will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that would be held next year in January in Detroit. The model will ride on the MRA platform which will also underpin the next-gen GLK. The new C-Class will be slightly longer than the outgoing model as a method to distance itself from the CLA which is 40mm longer than the outgoing C-Class.

The new model will apparently have a wheelbase of 2850mm which means it will be larger by 90mm compared to existing model, and the weight will be reduced by 80 kg (176 lbs). In terms of design, it will pretty much resemble a mini S-Class but with the E-Class’ front grille while the cabin is expected to get significant improvements with respect to materials, switchgear and the biggest display in its class which is said to feature more intuitive touchpad controls.

Engine options will include four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines and all of them will continue to sport a longitudinal mounting but the motors will be installed further back in order to improve weight distribution and safety.
