Mercedes-Benz GLC coming in 2016 to rival BMW X4 – report

by SpeedLux

A recent report from Car & Driver is reporting that Mercedes-Benz will launch the GLC-Class in 2016 in order to compete with the upcoming BMW X4.

With yet another model in the pipeline, the vehicle is set to receive the GLC moniker and will be a coupe kind of version of the upcoming second-gen GLK. It will follow the same philosophy behind BMW’s forthcoming X4 which is essentially a coupe-ified X3.

Both the GLK and GLC will ride on the same architecture which underpins the recently revealed C-Class (W205). The motivations will be derived from a variety of four- and six-cylinder engines and there could be a hybrid derivative as well. These engines will be further connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission that will send output to both axles, but a RWD version is being considered as well.

The same report also indicates that the GLC will be placed more upmarket compared to the GLK and so the price tag will also be higher and could start above 40,000 USD. The vehicle will likely be unveiled in the first quarter of 2016 and is expected to go on sale before the end of that year as a 2017MY in United States.
