Mercedes confirms plans for an extended wheelbase C-Class

Mercedes has recently confirmed its plans to build a long-wheelbase C-Class for the market of China.

Speaking to Reuters, Mercedes’ head of Research and Development Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber confirmed that there will be a long-wheelbase version for the specific needs of Chinese clients. This car will be built in China itself, and it will be exclusively for that market.

The company was coy on giving details about the specifications but in terms of dimensions the standard model is 95mm longer and 40mm wider compared to its predecessor. The 2014 C-Class also comes with a 2840mm long wheelbase which is longer by 80mm compared to the outgoing model.

As previously reported, the 2014 C-Class will be launched with three engines that will include:
• A 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 170 HP (125 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.
• A 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol mill rated at 156 HP (115 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.
• A 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine generating an output of 184 HP (135 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque.
