Besides the 2015 New York Auto Show, another interesting automotive exhibition event to pay attention to is this year’s Seoul Motor Show. In the latter event, the South Korean automaker, Hyundai recently announced the Enduro concept utility vehicle (CUV). Now, the company has yet another model to unveil, the RM15, a model that has its engine mounted in the middle section of the car.
Taking a quick look at the car, it may well remind people of the Hyundai Veloster Midship concept, which the company introduced last year. The only exception here is the livery of the new model, which is derived from the Hyundai i20 WRC variant. However, despite having a similar look, the Veloster Midship and the new mid-engined RM15 boast different spec sheets.
The Hyundai RM15 benefits from a very light set of body panels made of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and aluminum spaceframe. Thanks to the use of such components, the car has a total body weight of only 1,260 kg.
Under its hood, the car packs a 2.0L 4-cylinder T-GDI engine. For your information, the South Korean automaker had actually previewed a concept version of the RM15 since last year. Yet, the new version is coming with a rather different air intake slots. This time around, the air intake slots are arranged in a vertical position in the rear wheel arches and flanks. This is seemingly to enhance the cooling process within the engine bay.
With the aforementioned engine, the car has a total power output of 300 HP and a total torque of 383 Nm. The engine sends power to the rear wheels of the car by means of a 6-speed manual transmission. This enables the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in no more than 4.7 seconds. The car also features aluminum double wishbone suspension, a WRC-inspired roll cage and also mono block forged alloy wheels measuring 19 inches.
