The citizens of Milan are quite lucky. The Italian government sees them as a vital part of the country’s economy. As a vital part of the economy, it is only natural to see the people living in Milan having one or two cars in their home garage. However, in order to minimize widespread congestion, the Italian government has recently started to ask the Milan residents to leave their cars at home and take advantage of public transport means available in the country instead. In fact, the government is even offering to pay them to do that, mind you!
As reported by the Financial Times, the residents in the city will earn an SMS voucher worth 1.5 Euros if they are willing to take part in a government project themed ‘Park Your Car and Go Public!’ This value, for your information, is identical to the fee they have to pay for a public transit ticket. The government will be handing them over these SMS vouchers every single day they keep their cars at home. The government project starts from 7:30 a.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. each day.
In order to monitor which cars are left at home and which aren’t the government will install a particular device that is very small onto the dashboard of those cars. This way, there will be little to no chance that the residents can cheat and take advantage of this monitoring system.
Besides that monitoring system, it turns out that the Italian government has also taken into consideration other measures. These include car sharing among the residents, congestion charge zones and many more. In fact, the government has even issued a policy which will see cars fully banned if they violate certain regulations. Unfortunately, though, as for the latter, it is hard to go on for it keeps on making drivers hostile.
