Range Rover is expected to come up with a Plug-in-Hybrid model for the foreseeable future where Gasoline or LPG would be so expensive that a customer would prefer driving a Electric Vehicle rather than those vehicles which run on Gas/LPG, And to aid that The British Automaker is coming up with the new variant in near future.
“Plug-in hybrids definitely have the most potential. The Range Rover is the logical place to start as buyers of this car are able to afford the technology,” JLR chief hybrid technology engineer Peter Richings said. He added that “It makes sense to put it in the top car and let it filter its way down the range.”
Jaguar Land Rover is set to aspire plug-in hybrid technology, with the Range Rover model to be the first full production car fitted with it, and at the 2012 Paris Motor Show they have already launched the 2013 Range Rover, and as per the British automaker, the new Range Rover will be launched in the United States with a choice of two gas engines:
1. A 5.0 liter V8 engine which gushes out an total of 375 HP and
2. The 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine with 503 HP.
It is also known that, the first varinat will run the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 6.5 seconds and on the other hand, the second variant does that in 5.1 seconds.
The New Plug-in-Hybrid model is expected to share a same drivetrain that one, which already has been experimented with plug-in hybrid technology on the prototype of Jaguar XJ e PHV. This new PHV replaces the usual 5.0-litre V8 engine with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, a 94bhp electric motor and a 12.3kWh lithium-ion battery, which helps the XJ to run on full electric power for around 25 miles, while it can do a 0-60 mph sprint in 6.5 Seconds. Fuel economy is rated at 73.5mpg while CO2 emissions are rated at 75g/km. But this should be noted that, the same tech mentioned above won’t necessarily be used in the new Plug-in-Hybrid variant.
JLR chief hybrid technology engineer Peter Richings also stated that “the technology which will be fitted to the Range will be slightly different, yet very similar. Expect to see a production version somewhere after 2015, but before 2020.”
