BMW was supposed to come out with a car that used the turbocharged 4-cylinder engines. This talk has been going on for long and the German maker of the cars is yet quite tight lipped about this issue.
Automobile Magazine though has recently posted a tweet that the BMW Z4 model would be installed with a 4-cylinder force inducted engine, as a replacement for the naturally aspirated inline six.
The verbatim text that has been posted on the tweet reads as follows:-
“BMW new 4-cyl coming this year in Z4 roadster. Replaces nat asp 6, so at least 200 hp”
It appears that BMW is taking a serious view of the stricter fuel and emission regulations that are coming into force everyday.
Not that BMW is incapable of making a turbocharged engine for use on many of its current models. It would give the cars a more frugal and more powerful thrust. Some of the immediate cars that would benefit from the turbocharged edition are the 1-series and 3-series cars form the company. X3 owners however would demand for better fuel consumption rates.
The way things are boiling up the question is when and not why would BMW shift to the turbocharged engine usage.
