Nissan Motor stated on Thursday it was recalling almost 320,000 vehicles in Japan to repair defective coating in an electronic power unit that could trigger a short circuit and fire in the worst-case situation.

The recall covers 6 models consisting of the Serena minivan in addition to minivans and vans made for Suzuki Motor and Mitsubishi Motors produced from February 2010 to September 2014.

There were eight reports of fires from this problem, a filing with the transport ministry noted.

The recall only affects vehicles sold in Japan, a Nissan spokesman stated.
