Opel has recently announced its plans to introduce a more efficient Astra 1.6 CDTI at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Available as a hatchback, notchback and Sports Tourer, the new model is fitted with a 1.6-liter CDTI engine that generates an output of 110 HP (81 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. The engine will be further mated to an improved six-speed manual transmission and this will enable the cars to accelerate from 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) in 12.0 seconds and will go on to hit a top speed of 186 kmph (115 mph). In terms of fuel efficiency, owners can expect to average 3.7 L/100km (63.5 mpg US / 76.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of just 97 g/km.

According to Vice President of GM Europe Engineering, Michael Ableson, the new 1.6 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo gasoline and 1.6 CDTI engines comprise the core of their engine offensive. He further stated that they prove that Opel cars not only impress with design, but also offer top quality with ultra-modern technologies for an all-round, first-class driving experience.
