A report from German media has reported that Opel will introduce a Monza-based large SUV in 2017.

Opel had revealed the stunning Monza at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year and they had said that the concept serves as a preview for the firm’s new styling language. Now, Auto Bild of Germany is reporting that a large SUV internally known as Monza will enter the production phase sometime in 2017 and will comes with a base price of approximately 26,000 EUR.

Despite the obvious changes in the styling of the body, the Monza SUV will keep most of the styling cues as seen in the concept, including the headlights, air vents and the chrome detailing on the front grille. The Opel Monza SUV will be almost five meters long and will share its platform with a Buick model. The power will come from just about the same gasoline and diesel engines that can be found inside the Insignia mid-size sedan.

Production of the model is allegedly planned to take place at Opel’s Rüsselsheim factory in Germany where they currently make the Insignia and from 2015 the Zafira Tourer.
