This year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) event is currently taking place at Detroit, US, and there has been a great deal of news in the air, coming from the event. Now, there has yet been another bit of news and this time, it comes from the luxury German sports car manufacturer, Porsche. The company has confirmed during the aforementioned event that its 911 GT3 RS model is bound to have a new engine imminently.
As reported by the Auto Express, Wolfgang Hatz, the main person in charge of the research and development (R&D) division at Porsche, has disclosed that the company’s highly popular 911 GT3 RS will be treated with a completely new engine. This time, according to Hatz, it will be a naturally aspirated instead of a turbocharged engine. Hatz also discloses that the engine will have six cylinders in total. Speaking of the engine, there have also been some rumors out there that suggest that the engine Hatz is talking about will actually come with a total displacement capacity of 4.0 liters. As such, there are more than enough reasons to believe that the engine will burst out no less than 500 bhp.
Wolfgang Hatz has also disclosed that the engine will be mated to a PDK automatic transmission from Porsche. As for a manual transmission variant, the luxury German marquee has decided to rule that out for the years to come. If you remember correctly, we reported before that the decision came as a result of the constantly dropping sales of the company’s manual transmission vehicle lineups.
Hatz also indicates that the company’s upcoming GT3 RS will prove to be way more extreme when compared to the company’s standard GT3 model. The car will mainly focus on its performance. According to Hatz, the standard variant is loved by the customers. Nonetheless, for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, it has to be an ultimate option.
