Porsche has recently announced that the 918 Spyder is now the quickest car with global road homologation to lap the tracks of Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The feat was achieved on September 4 with Porsche factory race driver Marc Lieb behind the wheel completing the 20.6 km (12.8 miles) circuit in 6 minutes 57 seconds, significantly better than the previous 7 minutes and 11 seconds established by the Gumpert Apollo Sport.
In fact Porsche test driver Timo Kluck and former European Rally Champion Walter Röhrl also managed to take down the record on their first attempts but it was Marc who had the best time, with an average speed of more than 111 mph (179.5 kmph).
The 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder comes fitted with a naturally-aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine generating 608 HP (447 kW) which is transferred to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It works together with two electric motors producing 286 HP (210 kW) resulting in a combined output of mind-boggling 887 HP (652 kW).
The 918 Spyder will be able to achieve 0-62 mph (0-100 kmph) sprint in just 2.8 seconds, 0-124 mph (0-200 kmph) in mere 7.7 seconds and would be able to hit a top speed of 214 mph (345 kmph).
