Report: Bugatti Galibier Put On Hold Because It’s Just Not Good Enough

by Ionut Dragomir

The 16C Galibier was unveiled in 2009 as a concept. It had a detuned version of the Veyron’s engine, with 900bhp and increased torque. After that, it’s made an appearance at 2010 Geneva Motor Show, featuring just a new paintjob.

About three weeks ago we reported that Bugatti has confirmed the production of a four-door Veyron. At that time Wolfgang Dürheimer (Bugatti and Bentley boss) has confirmed the company is “committed to a four-door Bugatti”, and promised to deliver even more muscle from the W16 unit.

However, now, according to Inside Line and their sources, Bugatti boss Wolfgang Durheimer has put Bugatti’s much-hyped four-door super sedan on hold because it’s not yet an “argument stopper”.

It seems that Durheimer posed some tricky questions to Bugatti’s engineering team about comfort, interior space and performance and while the concept car originally proposed 800 horsepower as the target figure, and it is understood that Durheimer is less than satisfied with that output.

“It’s 800 horsepower now, but there are tuners today who can give you that and we don’t want our car to be involved in any discussion that involves tuners, so we have to move the benchmarks.”

“Right now, it’s definitely not enough (power) and it needs more space and comfort, especially in the rear.”

If it will hit the production line, the new Galibier will come with a price tag “beyond the Veyron,” that costs £1 million-plus, according to Dürheimer.

ok the power issue i agree with this article no tuner should ever be good enough for bugatti. give it a couple hundred more ponies or take the super sports engine and stick it in the 16c. now the size issue big deal make it 6 inches longer and problem solved. make it look just like the concept and there should be no complaints about it. most amazing interior and sheetmetal and lighting i’ve ever seen on any car and yes even concept cars arent even that amazing. please put the chrome areas on the car that is amazing. if i was mega rich i would. i think bugatti can actually grow alot more than you might think. just imagine a 4 seat coupe which wouldnt be too much work to make. and oh please make a larger production run and have much much less aftermarket designers do one off’s. i never like thoses. they dilute the name and car.
