A new report from The Detroit News states the mid-engine Corvette will arrive by 2019.
The report points out unnamed sources knowledgeable about General Motors’ strategies, who stated the mid-engine Corvette C8, codenamed “Emperor,” will debut in early 2018. The front-engine C7 Corvette Z06 and Grand Sport models will continue to be offered through 2021. The News notes that eventually the Chevrolet Corvette will be mid-engine only, however we believe a front-engine Corvette will continue to be readily available to keep the nameplate available to the average American.
General Motors recently revealed plant investments that consist of an $800 million cash injection into the Bowling Green Assembly plant located in Kentucky, where the Corvette is developed.
