Revisiting Toyota Prius updates

Toyota Prius, the brand-new automobile gets a sportier styling and is now longer, lower and broader and based upon the brand-new TNGA, or Toyota New Global Architecture, base for higher quality and rigidity. Overall it’s a much smarter looking vehicle with tips of Toyota’s hydrogen Mirai design.

At the rear, a coordinated LED light cluster contribute to the vehicle’s striking hybrid existence, however that existence is at finest distinctive and at worst polarising so it’s not going to appeal to everyone – but then Prius buyers have always made a statement about being eco-friendly.

Looking inside, the new cabin is more upmarket with a contemporary, nearly space-age, feel. The instrument panel is now housed in the centre of the dash. However, some of the fittings feel a little inexpensive, especially the shiny white centre console.

The smaller sized battery has actually been transferred to under the rear seat, assisting to reduce the centre of gravity and free up travel luggage space, bringing the boot size more than 500 litres, but as a result, headroom in the back is a bit tight although the rear seats can split 60/40 and fold down.

It is now even greener than in the past; the 1.8 petrol engine has actually been modified and Toyota reckons you will get 94.1 mpg (3litres/100km) and emit simply 70g/km of CO2 emissions, so road tax is EUR170 ($192).

Even the CVT gear box has enhanced, it does not make quite the exact same droning noise as it did however it’s still not particularly attractive.

Costs for the brand-new Prius start at EUR31,450 ($35,596) for the entry level, while the Prius Luxury Spec begins at EUR33,550 ($37,973). Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, 15ins alloys, front fogs, air con, rear-view camera, 7ins multimedia, touchscreen and Toyota Safety Sense. High-end specification include 17ins alloys, dualzone air con, heated front seats, cordless phone charger, blind-spot display and rear cross-traffic caution.

Prius has been the world’s best selling petrol-electric hybrid. The Prius name has become synonymous with Toyota and hybrid technology and this Prius is the very best variation to this day.
