The Scion iA sedan had actually been unveiled before, prior to the start of the 2015 New York Auto Show event. However, the company has also decided to bring the car to the stage in New York for its world premiere.
Basically, the car is the Mazda2 sedan, only with a different badging. According to the automaker in charge of developing the vehicle, the car features a dramatic design and that it comes with a highly affordable price tag despite being outstandingly sporty. In the reality, however, when compared to the version that has the Mazda badging on it, both cars look very identical, only with a few changes applied on the Scion version.
For instance, the one with the Scion badging on it comes with a newly developed radiator front grille with a hexagonal design. This front grille is also flanked by sweptback headlamps. Yet, on the rear fascia, new taillights are clearly visible.
For its body construction, the automaker Scion has decided to use a strong structure. As for its performance, the car is equipped with a 1.5L engine that spits out 106 HP of power output. Buyers of the vehicle will also get to choose whether they want to mate that engine of the vehicle with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
This new sedan from Scion is also coming with retuned MacPherson strut suspension for the front end and torsion beam suspension for the rear end. In addition, it also sits firmly on 16-inch alloy wheels, resulting in a comfortable ride as well as sporty and balanced handling that Scion claims customers won’t usually get in this vehicle segment.
Last but not least, those who buy the Scion iA will also get a host of luxury amenities that come standard, including a rearview camera, a pre-collision system that works at low speed, engine start/stop button and also keyless entry system.
