SRT slashes Viper production due to slow sales

There is some bad news for the SRT Viper lovers as the company is cutting down the production of the model due to lack of enough demand.

According to Automotive News, Chrysler has slashed the production of Viper by a third and reassigned scores of employees due to slowing sales and a lack of demand. While this sounds dire, Chrysler will only build three less Vipers a day.

Initially Chrysler had plans to limit Viper production to 2,000 units annually but in the last eight months, the company has managed to sell only 426 Vipers in the United States. Another surprising fact is that the dealers have 565 unsold units in stock which is equal to as much as 289-day supply.

Despite the slowing sales, SRT CEO Ralph Gilles is pretty optimistic about the Viper’s future as he feels that the sales will likely pick up when warmer weather arrives next spring. SRT employees will also begin visiting dealerships to allow potential customers to get behind the wheel of the sports car. Gilles was quoted saying, “We really have to focus on putting butts in seats. A lot of people are unnecessarily intimidated by the car.”
