Nissan brought a significantly upgraded 2017 GT-R to the New York Car Show this week, having more power, an updated appearance, and a touch of improvement inside the cabin.

Essentially, Godzilla is more scary– however also somehow friendlier– than ever.

To be exact, this isn’t really an all-new automobile; that’s still a year or 2 (or three) out. But exactly what’s remarkable is that Nissan has actually handled to keep the GT-R essentially at the peak of its game since its 2007 launching (not to mention the original idea car, which debuted some 15 years earlier in 2001). The freshened 2017 model features 20 additional horsepower and four more lb-ft. of torque from its 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 for an overall of 565 and 467, respectively; new efficiency figures haven’t been published, but the outbound vehicle can strike 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, which is well into supercar territory. Granted, the base cost is simply over $100,000 for a 2016 vehicle– however even so, the automobile has actually constantly been a remarkable value for that level of performance.

All of this can be had in a striking new exterior color, Blaze Metallic, which is on screen at the New York Car Show this week. Though (just for the moment) is the uptuned NISMO variation of the car, which produces 600 horse power for a couple of dollars shy of $150,000 in 2016 trim. It’s possible the NISMO will return, but we can’t be that far from the next-gen GT-R, either. We’ll see which gets here first.

The 2017 GT-R will be in showrooms this summertime.
