Three were killed after a head-on car crash in Hawaii on Sunday.

Salt Lake City-area attorney Rebecca van Uitert and her husband, Heber City Dr. Jason Howell, were killed in a car crash. Both were on vacation when the crash happened.

A total of three people were killed in a three-car crash on Hawaii’s Big Island.

Officials believe a Toyota SUV was driving south on Highway 11 when it happened to cross the double yellow line on the road and struck a Jeep SUV in the northbound lane head-on. After this crash, a Volvo sedan driving south struck the Toyota.

Both occupants of the Jeep — who are believed to be van Uitert and Howell — were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The driver of the Toyota succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

The 72-year-old man driving the Volvo had small injuries and was released from the hospital.
