Three people were killed and five others were injured on early Saturday morning in a head-on crash involving a pickup truck and an SUV on State Road 13, St, Johns County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Officials believe that a pickup truck heading south on SR-13 just after 1 a.m. veered off its lane and struck a northbound SUV near the Shands Bridge. Seven people from Pompano Beach inside an SUV, three of which were juveniles.
According to the FHP’s initial report, a man and two women were killed, while five others were being treated in the hospital.
Five people were not using seatbelts.
All lanes of State Road 13 were closed just north of the Shands Bridge for hours during Saturday morning due to the investigation. Later on, the lanes were reopened in the area.
