Toyota Unveils the Camry Hybrid SiC

by SpeedLux

If you happen to be quite a huge fan of the automaker from Japan, Toyota, you may well be excited to hear this news about the company. Toyota has officially unveiled the Camry Hybrid SiC, albeit in its prototype guise. Yes, the Toyota Camry is a luxury sedan from the Japanese automaker. With that being said, it is exciting to find out what this hybrid version of the vehicle model actually has in store.

The Japanese automaker points out that it is building this hybrid version of the Camry in order to test out how the silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor material fares. For the very purpose of that, the Japanese automaker claims that it uses a unique power control unit, or PCU for short, for the Camry Hybrid SiC prototype. By using the semiconductor material, the vehicle will have its fuel efficiency improved quite significantly. As a matter of fact, the Japanese automaker claims that by using this very material, the car will consume fuel by up to ten percent more efficiently than by using other more conventional materials.

Although it has been unveiled officially, Toyota will only begin evaluating the Camry Hybrid SiC when the next month begins. The company points out that during the evaluation process, it will attempt to assess things like the current and voltage of the PCU, driving conditions, patterns and speeds, and even outside temperature as well. Then, after that, Toyota will try to make a comparison of the assessment data it acquires using the silicon carbide semiconductor material with the data when traditional silicon semiconductor material is used. This is to find out which material is more efficient than the other.

It is only then that Toyota will be able to be convinced in using the new silicon carbide semiconductor (SiC) material in its future cars. If everything falls into place, Toyota claims it will start practical use of the component as soon as possible. This may hint that the company plans to produce the Toyota Camry Hybrid SiC as soon as possible if the material proves to be effective.
