Volkswagen said on Wednesday it will appeal a Dutch court order to compensate owners of the automaker’s vehicles affected by dieselgate.
The district court in Amsterdam said 3,000 euros ($3,537) of compensation was warranted for every buyer of a new Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, and Skoda that included the software, while owners of a second-hand car should get 1,500 euros ($1,768).
The automaker said it did not agree with the verdict.
“We believe that car owners in the Netherlands have not suffered any economic loss due to the issue”, the automaker said.
“All automobiles are safe and roadworthy, and no loss in their trade value resulted in the Dutch market because of the issue, as has been confirmed by external valuation experts.”
The compensation, which can still be appealed by Volkswagen, covers around 150,000 cars sold by dealers targeted in the class action suit, according to the court.
Volkswagen emissions scandal has cost the automaker more than 32 billion euros in fines, repairing, and legal costs to this day.
