Volkswagen to make carbon fiber roof option for high-performance Golf models

Volkswagen has recently announced its plans to offer a carbon fiber roof option for the high-performance Golf models.

According to Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, the firm’s Research and Development Head, the usage of carbon fiber roof will help to lower the curb weight of the car by 18 – 20 lbs (8.16 – 9.07 kg). He said that the most difficult task on the agenda of the company as on date was to create a set of waterproof joints for sealing the Golf’s roof to the body sides and to the windshield.

However no details have been given by the company about the launch date or the pricing of the optional features that would be provided. No details are available as to which models would receive these options but we can only assume that the GTI and GTD versions of the Golf VII are expected to receive the carbon fiber roof.
