Volkswagen launching more powerful Golf GTI Concept to Worthersee

Volkswagen has recently announced that a more powerful Golf GTI Concept will be unveiled later this month at Wörthersee. The information was given by the company’s R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg while giving one of the interviews.

Ulrich explained that the concept will serve as a preview of a future version which will not have as much power as the Golf GTI W12. That model was launched way back in 2007 at Wörthersee and came with a Bentley-sourced mid-mounted 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine which was able to generate 641 hp (478 KW) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque. The model was able to accelerate to 62 mph (100 kmph) in just 3.7 seconds and could hit a top speed of 203 mph (326 kmph).

Coming back to the upcoming concept, it could represent a lighter and more powerful version of the Golf VII GTI designed to celebrate the model’s 40th anniversary. If it won’t be that radical, there are chances that the company is preparing a slightly more powerful Edition 40 GTI, following the footsteps of the Golf V-based Edition 30 and the Golf VI-based Edition 35.
