Volkswagen to Produce the Beetle Dune for 2016

Need we remind you that Volkswagen had recently made an official announcement indicating that it would soon cease production of the Beetle lineups? Well, ironically enough, it seems that the company has decided to do the opposite instead. The German automaker has now unveiled its plan to produce the next generation variant of the company’s Beetle model, which will bear the Dune moniker.

According to the German marquee, the vehicle will be available for orders starting from the fiscal year 2016. It will reportedly remain true to its root that was shown a while ago during the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that took place in Detroit last year.

Despite announcing its plan to the world, the German company still tries to keep the spec sheet of the vehicle a secret. However, taking a look at the VW Beetle Dune concept, it is pretty clear that the new model will take the R-Line variant of the Beetle model as its base. With that being said, there is nothing wrong with expecting a ventilated engine hood, rocker guards painted in brushed aluminum hue, extended wheel arches, skid plate with chrome plating and also a higher ground clearance. The car will also count on 19-inch alloy wheels for gripping onto the roads.

The car will have its power coming from a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine that delivers no less than 210 bhp of power output in total. Power is to be sent to the front wheels by means of a 6-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox and also an electronic XDS differential system.
