Volvo V60 diesel-electric plug-in hybrid will be launched at the Geneva Motor Show, has an economy rate of 125 MPG

The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid car is going to be showcased at the 2011 Geneva Motor show. The vehicle is near ready for production and statistics available of the car point out to it having a fuel consumption rate of 125 mpg which works out to a 1.9 liter of juice for every 100 km.

The hybrid car comes with a diesel engine – a 2.4 liter 5 cylinder turbo diesel unit that powers the front set of wheels. It is capable of generating 215 hp and 440 Nm or 325 lb-ft of torque. For transmission the car comes equipped with a six speed automatic gear system. The rear wheel is driven by a 70 hp electric motor which has a 12 kWh lithium battery pack as its power source.

This car is unique in the aspect that there are features of three diffent cars that can be found in this one car itself. Range that can be expected from this car is 32 miles or 52 km.

Stefan Jacoby , president and CEO of Volvo cars, says, “In order to get true car enthusiasts to think green, you have to offer them the opportunity to drive with low carbon dioxide emissions without taking away the adrenaline rush that promotes genuine driving pleasure. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has all the traditional properties of a genuine sports wagon. What we’ve done is to spice it up with spearhead technology.”

The hybrid car has been a joint venture of Volvo and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall. Production of the car is expected to start from 2012.
