Two people were killed after a four-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon in downtown Charleston.

The crash took place at about 4:32 p.m. on Calhoun Street close to Courtenay Drive and the SC30 exit ramp.

One of the vehicles was a motorcycle. The rider and passenger on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The roadway was shut for over five hours while the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team investigated the crash.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office is yet to release the identities of the victims.

Multiple occupants of the other vehicles were treated by medical personnel over non-life-threatening injuries.
