Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the starting place for many new models and concepts. Well Lotus kept his promise and unveiled the stunning Evora GTE Road Car Concept. Good enough, isn’t it? Well that’s not all because the British sports car maker also pulled the wraps off the Exige Matte Black Final Edition, a special model reserved exclusively for the North American market.
Let’s begin with Lotus Evora GTE because it was the first unveiled. It is a race car developed with a single-minded aim to be successful in the new global motorsport GTE category, which includes the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours.
This high-strung Evora elicits over 420 bhp from its race-developed engine, fed through a sequential AMT racing gearbox and put to the pavement through ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels with center-lock hubs shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires.
According to the manufacturer, “the Evora GTE Road Car Concept isn’t merely a paint scheme or homage to a race car – this is a serious race car that makes for a very serious road car”.
However, let’s move on. If you don’t know, this isn’t the first time that Lotus has introduced a market-specific Exige with a sinister look and theme. You might remember that back in 2009, Lotus also released the Exige Stealth for Japanese buyers and Exige Scura for European customers.
Now, the U.S. verion comes with some new features completing those cars’ track-ready features like launch control and variable-slip traction control. Lotus Exige Matte Black Final Edition is mostly an appearance package with the addition of black Alcantara seats and a slightly upgraded motor on top of the matte finish. Lotus collectors might be interested in the exclusiveness of the car, though, with just 25 slated for production.
