2012 BMW M6 Spied During Testing: Spy Shots

by Sebastian Bivin

Even if the 2012 BMW M6 will reach production over almost a year, it has been captured once again in testing by Motorauthority’s spy photographers. This model is thought to packing up to 600 horsepower from a tuned-up version of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 found under the hoods of the X5 M and X6 M and the 2012 BMW M5 unveiled last month, and could potentially be the fastest production car ever launched by BMW.

For now we won’t know the specs of the 2012 M6 until BMW makes it official, we can just expect figures close to those put out by the M5. That translates to 0-60 mph times of about 4.4 seconds, 0-124 mph in 13.0 seconds, and top speed limited to 155 mph, though a performance pack option that raises the limit north of 180 mph is likely. Combined fuel economy for the M5 is 23.7 mpg in European testing, and the M6 should come in near that mark as well.

As we already know from the previous reports, the M6 could be replaced altogether by theupcoming i8 ‘eco’ supercar, but as confirmed by these spy shots, we’ll have at least one more round of the M6.

Comparing it with the next-gen 6-Series Coupe the M6 packs some slight yet significant changes. In these pictures, we can see quad exhaust outlets, reworked front and rear ends to snag more airflow while minimizing lift, and a similar but sleeker overall profile compared to the current model.

Isn’t sure yet, but the 2012 BMW M6 is likely to make its world debut early next year, with sales to start sometime next summer.
