Ferrari is planning to give an update to the 2012 California. The improvements start with an additional 30 horsepower to the 4.3 liter V8 engine giving it a total of 483 hp. The engine upgrade is made possible through a revised engine mapping and a few internal improvements. It is important to mention though that the extra engine power is available only when a 98 octane fuel is used. The ECU, however, can also take a 95 octane fuel. The torque increases as well and is now up to 373 lb ft and has a higher plateau across the board.
Lighter
The new 2012 Ferrari California is also leaner and lighter. This is made possible by the use of aluminum alloy in the chassis of the car. According to reports, the new Ferrari California is around 66 pounds lighter than the previous version of the car.
Better performance
The added power and decrease in weight is expected to translate into better performance for the 2012 Ferrari California. An optional Handling Speciale package will also be available. It will feature upgraded dampers coupled with an ECU with a 50 percent improvement in response rate. All in all, these changes will bring sharper steering response, more agility and reduced body roll.
More improvements
When it comes to the looks department, the 2012 Ferrari California may look the same as it predecessors but there are actually some slight improvements to it. When it comes to externals, an optional silver flecked front grille is now available. The built-in car entertainment system also received some upgrades. It now has a bigger hard drive at 40Gb (from 30Gb) and it can now be synced seamlessly with an iPhone or any Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
How much?
The price of the new 2012 Ferrari California is not available yet but it is expected that the car will fetch premium figures because of the annual January price increase.
