The 2012 Hyundai Veloster

As replacement for the Tiburon by Hyundai Motor, the company CEO John Krafick had declared last year in December that they would be coming out with a new model which would be based on the Veloster Concept. The car was supposed to join their 2011 lineup as a 2012 model. The prototype of the car is ready and the spy shots received reveal that the testing phase is currently on and may be released by early next year if not in the end of this year.

Pricing of the car would place it at the eco sport position as said by Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik. The car would not be just about performance is what he said. Hyundai already has a car in the sporting segment in the form of the Genesis Coupe. The Tiburon being repositioned by price and make would ensure that Hyundai does not start a competition for its own self in its own makes.

The concept version would derive maximum ideas from the Veloster concept and most of it would be transcribed into the production version as per Krafick. The car would also be stylish and fuel efficient.

Powering the car would be the Theta II gasoline direct-injection (GDI) four-cylinder engines from Hyundai itself. There would also be a variant model too. The power output would be 140 to 200 hp. And for transmission there would be the list of Hyundai’s six-speed transmissions, one automatic and one manual. Talk is going on for installing the six-speed dual clutch transmission system also in which case this would turn out to be a competitor for the Scirocco.

There is a lot of similarity that can be observed through the spy shots of the car with the stylish Scirocco coupe from Volkswagen. With the Scirocco not being available in the US market the next best option would be this Hyundai make, though there is yet a wait of over a year for its actual presence in the market.
