2012 Porsche Boxster caught undergoing cold weather testing

by Alex

If you were not following closely enough you might have missed out on the fact that Porsche is ready with their brand new Boxter Spyder. The car has already hit the showrooms last year. With this car the entry level convertible range from the German manufacturer is complete and is due for a replacement with a brand new model over the next year. The video here shows that the car is undergoing cold weather testing in locations of Sweden. Many photos have also been revealed unofficially from sources with the prototype of the Boxter undergoing further winter tests.

The prototype has got a brand new set of LED tail lights on the rear with the design inspired by the brand new upcoming model of Porsche 911 (shown alongside the Boxster). But what these photos also suggest is that the car desperately needs a defrost cycle to operate smoothly during the snowy winters.

Thus good news is that the development of the all new Porsche Boxter for the model year 2012 is already on the go as the photos and videos suggest. Rumors are doing the rounds of how this brand new model may look like after all. The all hyped car is tipped to have a lightweight, turbocharged four cylinder platform. Another set of rumors are doing the rounds as well suggesting that Porsche may revive the 914 as well and that it may be co-produced by Volkswagen and Porsche alike. In that case if it’s true the news is huge. That would give the brand new Boxter some bullish boost with the highly charged four banger becoming a surety. With this co branding Porsche will be sure to put a six cylinder option on offer for the upper range models.

With all these designs at helm we might also expect a detuned version of then Carrerra being produced by the German makers. It will also mark an improved rating of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The six cylinders Boxter from Porsche and the Cayman are the best that the company has to offer. But both these models emit about 222 g/km of CO2 which is about 100g clear of the permissible limits. Hence that has to be reduced if Porsche expects the cars to run obeying the limits in the year 2015.

The brand new car from Porsche is right around the corner and is expected towards the end of this year. The revealing of the car will put an end to all thoughts and visualizations and will turn most of them into reality. After all it’s a car from none other than Porsche. It’s bound to be THAT good.
